So last night I was sorting through a bunch of old Cakewalk backups looking for a song I wrote a few years ago. In my ridiculous haste, I had named it “newthing” and of course didn’t remember the generic title. To my surprise I found a bunch of ideas I’ve recorded over the years a few of which I had completely forgotten about. Hearing some of those ideas really got the creative juices flowing.
For the last few years, I’ve been toying with the idea of recording a solo project and after listening to those tracks I’m dedicating myself to fulfilling that goal this year. After an hour of auditioning ideas, I pieced together the best ones and combined with a handful of new songs will certainly have an albums worth of material.
Recording yourself is a must. I’ve often set up a mic even when I’m just noodling around as you never know when inspiration will strike. In fact, inspiration always seems to strike at the most unexpected moment so having a mic up ready to go helps capture the idea on the fly without disturbing the creative flow.
