Winter NAMM 2012 Multi-FX Units

Thursday, January 19, 2012| by Will Chen

We'll NAMM is here and it looks like competition it the multi-fx floorboard market is heating up.

Boss has announced the GT-100 for which they've reportedly completely reworked their COSM modeling platform. Given the flexibility of the GT-10, the unit shows a bunch of promise with dual LCD screens and a nice uncluttered physical interface. Get more information at the GT-100 Roland Connect page.

Zoom announced a follow up to their very impressive G3, the G5 which offers 4 LCDs, Zoom's Z pedal (a dual axis expresion pedal), up to 9 effects at once,  20 amp models, a 60 second looper, and a built in 16db tube booster. For more info, visit the Zoom G5 product page.

Fender is bringing the technology behind their popular Mustang modeling amps to the floor with the Mustang Floor. The unit with have a street price just under $300 and offers 12 amp models, 37 effects, and integration with their FUSE software for deep editing. More information  is available from the Fender Mustang Floor product page.

Peavey is finally offering a portable version of Revalver....kinda. Though a partnership with Muse Research, Peavey has announced the release of the MuseBox, a portable VST player which ships with Revalver HP. The MuseBox was initially announced during winter NAMM 2010, but Peavey has finally attached a street price of ~$999 to the unit and its showing up in online catalogs so it looks as if the product will finally hit the market in 2012.

Digitech has continued their recent i-dongle marketing path and released the iStomp, a programable stomp box for which new effects can be purchased though an iStore app called the Stomp Shop. I've been a long time Digitech fan, but the company seems increasingly interested alienating my needs as a player. I can't see why anyone would purchase this over something like the Line 6 M5, but clearly one way to differentiate oneself among the competition is to cater to a niche. Digitech's full press release can be read here.

Speaking of Line 6, the company announced a forth coming 2.0 POD HD update offering a new Marshall Plexi (normal and bright channels), Ampeg B-15NF Portaflex, mic pre based on the Requisite Y7 (good to see that XLR input put to use), and some enhancements to their Variax integration. Full press release here.
