Suit Filed Against Gibson Guitars Regarding Illegal Harvested Woods

Wednesday, August 18, 2010| by Will Chen

If you remember, 2009 was a very, very bad year for Gibson Guitars (view the chain of events here). Since then, the company has hinted at being heavily debt leveraged and suffered potentially substantial losses during the Tennessee floods in May. Now the Tennessean has reported on Aug 14th that as a result of the federal raids which occurred in November 2009, a lawsuit has been filed by the US Attorney General's office in Nashville seeking permanent possession of the confiscated materials. The article also runs down the chain of events leading to the identification of German company Nagel and their US affiliate Hunter Trading Corp, Gibson's exclusive ebony supplier, as being in possession of $1.3 million of illegally harvested wood.
