It seems supergroups are all the fashion these days and the term is being applied to every band built of former members of previously successful acts. The newest of which currently creating a buzz is Tinted Windows consisting of Hanson front man Taylor Hanson, former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Fountains Of Wayne and Ivy mainstay Adam Schlesinger, and Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos. The band has reportedly been signed to S-Curve Records with a debut release due on April 21.
Tinted Windows has a promotional video already up on YouTube (seen below) and it certainly combines all the influences of the members with the sugary teen pop catchiness of Hanson, fuzzed out guitars ala Smashing Pumpkins, and the old school rock vibe of Cheap Trick. Taylor will likely charm the ladies with his boyish good looks and charisma and Iha adds a bit of alt-cred to the lineup. Their promo sounds Top 40 radio friendly, but the "supergroup" tag feels a bit misplaced in this case.
