What’s the best guitar for a beginner?

Friday, July 25, 2008| by Will Chen

This is probably the most repeated question that I see on guitar discussion boards. In my opinion, it is also the most pointless question asked on guitar discussion boards. Why? As so many companies have employed CNC machines to build guitars, consistent quality has dramatically improved. Sure, some companies put more time into the little details and setting up their guitars, but in my experience there are plenty of high quality budget guitars on the market. So many in fact, that I find it pretty impossible to recommend an absolute best. There really aren’t beginner guitars, just beginner budgets. Well, then what are some good affordable guitars you ask? Each issue of FrugalGuitarist.com is full of them!

I agree, the quality of "beginner" guitars has improved greatly since I started teaching 15 years ago. In fact, the secret I've been told is that many manufacturers have their guitars made in the same factory in...where is it...Indonesia? They simply change the headstock or other mild details for the company. So there's not a lot of difference in those entry models, and the students benefit.
